STATION HISTORY

In the mid 1990’s, while visiting the monastery at EWTN, Mother Angelica, Foundress of EWTN, asked Jim and Joanne Wright and Mary Ellen Capece to return home to Buffalo and start a Catholic radio apostolate.  Jim, Joanne, and Mary Ellen lacked radio or media experience; however, after prayerful discernment, The Station of the Cross began their journey to bring Catholic radio to Western New York.

After overcoming a number of challenges, The Station of the Cross began broadcasting as WLOF 101.7 FM Buffalo on August 15, 1999, and is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. WHIC 1460 AM Rochester began broadcasting on July 1, 2003.  WHIC is dedicated to Our Lady’s Holy and Immaculate Conception.  WQOM 1060 AM Boston is dedicated to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. The Station of the Cross Catholic Radio Network broadcasts quality Catholic programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In addition to all of the rewards of an on-air radio presence, Holy Family Communications brings with it a support staff of dynamic, faithful individuals with the expertise and knowledge to successfully run a radio network. They are devoted to their faith and to dispelling doubt. In the ten years that HFC has been on the air in answer to the wishes of Mother Angelica, the network is always fine-tuning their operation which allows them to provide excellence in programming and community action.

The Station of the Cross, Catholic Radio broadcasts at 101.7 FM Buffalo and 1460 AM Rochester, New York. Owned by the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, Holy Family Communications, co-founded by Jim and Joanne Wright, is funded entirely by tax-deductible listener-support.
